Junior League of Summit

Community Impact

i-SAFE

The League’s newest initiative is “Connecting and Protecting Generation TXT: Promoting the Safe and Inventive Uses of Technology.” The Junior League of Summit is partnering with i-SAFE, the nationwide leader in Internet safety education to educate and empower youth to make their Internet experiences safe and responsible. Working with representatives from schools within the League’s service area, the JLS is introducing i-SAFE as a flexible learning tooI that can be woven into existing school curriculum.

Kids on the Block

Through puppetry, the JLS educates area elementary school children on social issues. Kids on the Block teaches children how to accept differences in others and themselves as well as make healthier life choices. The puppets discuss topics such as bullying and physical challenges in a clear, non-threatening manner and allow the students to express their feelings and concerns to the puppets during the question and answer session that follows each skit. The League has been active with Kids on the Block for over a decade.

Mission Accomplished

Mission Accomplished utilizes smaller scale projects to target and address critical needs in the community through various service projects that can be completed in a short amount of time. These projects allow the JLS to collaborate with area organizations while providing the League’s members with hands-on community service experience. Projects range from hosting “Friday Night Fever” for the pediatric patients at Children’s Specialized Hospital to staffing a “Girls on the Run” race that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy living through running to “Thanks-for-Giving Baskets” which provides over 300 holiday meals and more than $3,000 in Shop Rite gift cards to needy families.

Larks

Larks is a musical troupe that seeks to bring joy and cheer to our local senior citizens through performances at area nursing homes and senior citizen centers.  Our Larks are well-known throughout the community and even have recorded their own CD!
