WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?
As set forth in the Junior League of Summit Community Project Endowment Fund Governing Instrument approved by the membership 2/15/2000, the “Endowment Fund is established as a separate fund of the Junior League of Summit (‘JLS’) for the purpose of providing a perpetual source of funds to support the JLS community programs.”
WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS?
Community projects, community events and community activities and participation (as determined from time to time by the JLS Board of Directors).
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Acquire money and property to be invested and reinvested so that the principal remains intact, while the income produced is used to support community programs. All income in the Endowment Fund shall be accumulated until such time as the total fund balance in the Endowment Fund has reached the sum of $50,000.
WHAT ARE TYPICAL CONTRIBUTIONS?
One-time gifts, multi-year pledges, planned gifts, event proceeds, memorial tributes, grants and bequests. Contributions may be cash, real estate, insurance policies, securities and other tangible or intangible assets from any person or organization at any time.
WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL PHILOSOPHY?
Preserve capital and maintain moderate growth. Provide a firm financial basis for future planning.
WHY DOES THE JLS NEED AN ENDOWMENT FUND?
The JLS has raised most of the funds for our community programs from the revenues of our SHOPS and individual fundraisers. While our SHOPS continue to be the primary source of our income and are an excellent community service, the needs in our community continue to grow.
WHO WILL CONTRIBUTE?
The establishment of an Endowment Fund will heighten the League’s visibility as a recipient of charitable contributions from both individuals and corporations.
WHY SHOULD I CONTRIBUTE?
The Endowment Fund offers an opportunity to invest in the future of our League and ensures our impact in the community for years to come.
IS THERE A TAX INCENTIVE?
Contributions to the League’s Endowment Fund are considered contributions to a charitable and educational organization under the Internal Revenue Code 501 (C) 3 and as such are tax deductible for the donor.
