Projects and GRACE

The JLS has been the driving force behind many types of initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital place to live including the Summit Speech School, Mabie Playground, the Jefferson Elementary Garden, and the Summit First Aid Squad. GRACE (Giving and Receiving Assistance for Our Communities Essentials) is the JLS’s current signature project.  Through this program the JLS dedicates a significant portion of its volunteer manpower and funding to alleviating food insecurity in our service area by providing food and other necessities to families at our community refrigerator, through our backpack initiative, and with seasonal food collection and distribution. We also continue to work with our local partners to provide members the opportunity to broaden the scope of their volunteering through monthly hands on projects, advisory councils, and involvement in specific events that may be going on in the community.

Training and Advocacy

One of the main goals of the JLS is to educate members and train them to be effective and well-rounded community leaders and volunteers.  We offer a multitude of opportunities for members to broaden their skill set and gain the tools, confidence, and network they need to truly make a difference.  For members who want to hit the ground running and start impacting critical issues immediately, the JLS is an active force in the Junior Leagues of NJ State Public Affairs Committee, which is a statewide, non-partisan committee comprised of delegates from eight Leagues which represent over 3,000 trained volunteers. SPAC advocacy focuses on the needs of women and children and currently concentrates on the Opioid Epidemic, Human Trafficking, Violence against Women. SPAC has meaningful partnerships with agencies and groups across these issue areas and is influential in creating measures that protect the people affected by these crises and help in one day eliminating the issue all together.

Grants and Scholarships

The JLS strives to affect positive community change by providing financial support to non-profit organizations and deserving students in the area. We have given over 3 million dollars to our community in the form of grants to organizations whose missions better the lives of those they serve and scholarships to students who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism.

Social

The JLS has a variety of opportunities to socialize and meet new people and families.  Some of our events like our General Membership Meetings, Committee Socials, and Cookie Swap encourage bonds among members while others like Trivia Night, Fall Celebration, and Restaurant Meet-ups give spouses a chance to meet and join the fun!  All of our social activities allow members to combine a day or night on the town with an opportunity to give back to the community!
