Community Impact of the Junior League of Summit:

  • Recently celebrated 88 years of effecting positive community change through voluntarism
  • Opened in 1934, The Junior League Thrift Shop is the oldest retail establishment in Summit
  • Over one million volunteer hours since our founding in 1929
  • $3,000,000 returned to the community through grant funding and scholarships since inception and giving over $50,000 in 2018!
  • Current focus of striving to cover the basic needs of the underserved in the Summit area via donations drives, discreet aid, nutrient dense foods, and advocacy through GRACE (Giving and Receiving Assistance for Our Community’s Essentials)

    Benefits to Membership in the Junior League of Summit:

    • An internal network of over 400 members encompassing varied backgrounds, education, and talents. This strength of our membership offers personal support for success throughout your involvement with our community. Your interaction with other women interested in community service will be invaluable.
    • Development of leadership abilities and management skills not easily obtained elsewhere including training with well-regarded national trainers for effective community leadership, advocacy, community research, fundraising, finance, public relations, conflict resolution and personal development.
    • Ability to attend National Junior League training events – paid for by the JLS
    • Insight into community needs, access to community leaders and exposure to creative strategies in problem solving and administration of a non-profit organization.
    • Membership in an international organization. The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. is an international network of 292 Junior Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Great Britain with 200,000 members worldwide.
    • An opportunity to make lifelong friends and the ability to transfer membership to other Junior Leagues around the world.
    • Seeing first-hand, the power of voluntarism in Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Madison, New Providence, and Summit! For 88 years, the JLS has been one of the first organizations to tackle our community's biggest challenges.
